Here at Concentis, we are seeking a technically skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join the Reliability Team with our Tier 1 mining client on a 12 month contract, with strong potential for extension. A permanent opportunity may be explored for the right person open to relocation.
Based in Far North Queensland this FIFO role operates on a 12:9 roster — giving you two full weekends at home during your nine days off. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a global mining leader, contributing to high-impact projects that sustain and enhance critical mining infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities - Provide technical diagnostic and interface between equipment suppliers to best support engineering and maintenance on specialist or handling processes. Participate and lead root cause failure investigations.
- Partner with maintenance to deliver major maintenance focused on the design and execution of asset overhauls or modifications.
- Develop detailed drawings and designs, scopes of work, project plans, and technical documentation working with planning and scheduling to streamline works in shutdowns
- Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, and secure capital expenditure approvals.
- Support procurement: obtain contractor pricing, evaluate bids, and contribute to contractor selection.
- Supervise contractor activities onsite to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Work collaboratively with reliability and maintenance teams to ensure assets are successfully returned to service and tactics/drawings and procedures are aligned.
- Identify and implement design improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure full compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Conduct post-project reviews, including root cause analysis and lessons learned documentation.
- Track works, generate and review reports from specialist vendors.
Performance Objectives - Deliver high-quality design and execution of asset maintenance within time and budget constraints.
- Strengthen asset reliability through fit-for-purpose design and seamless project delivery.
- Promote a culture of zero harm, safety leadership, and proactive risk management.
- Drive continuous improvement in project delivery, asset performance, and stakeholder engagement.
- Build productive, cross-functional relationships with operations, engineering, and maintenance stakeholders.
Key Skills & Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering across project delivery and design in mining, heavy industry, or similar.
- Strong technical understanding of bulk material handling systems (e.g., conveyors, feeders, screens, pumps, rail mounted equipment – stacker, reclaimer and ship loader).
- Proficiency in engineering drawings, design, project planning, budgeting, and contractor supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead and coordinate across teams.
- Knowledge of reliability principles, condition monitoring, and maintenance strategies.
- Safety-focused with a demonstrated ability to lead by example on site.
- Project Management certification – desirable but not essential.
