As part of their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), they are collaborating with First Nations communities to implement a unique environmental initiative that combines tree planting with honeycomb production that creates positive social and environmental outcomes. This program aims to enhance biodiversity, support sustainable agriculture, and provide economic opportunities for First Nations people.
Position Overview:
The Contracts Manager for the RAP Program will play a crucial role in managing the legal and commercial aspects of the program, which involves partnering with First Nations communities to plant native trees and cultivate bee colonies for honey production. The successful candidate will oversee the development, negotiation, and management of contracts related to land use agreements, environmental compliance, community partnerships, and supply chain management.
This position requires a skilled legal and contracts professional with experience in environmental projects, Indigenous relations, and community engagement. The Contracts Manager will ensure that all contractual arrangements align with the organisation’s values, RAP objectives, and respect for First Nations cultural and environmental priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Development & Management:
- Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts related to tree planting, bee cultivation, and honey production, including agreements with First Nations communities, environmental consultants, suppliers, and contractors.
- Ensure all contracts are legally sound, reflect the objectives of the RAP program, and are compliant with relevant environmental and Indigenous laws and regulations.
- Develop frameworks for ongoing contract administration, tracking milestones, deliverables, and timelines.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Act as the primary point of contact for contractual matters between the client, First Nations communities, and external partners.
- Facilitate transparent and collaborative discussions with First Nations communities to ensure that agreements reflect their cultural, environmental, and economic interests.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Environmental, Legal, Community Relations) to ensure alignment of contractual obligations with program objectives and their corporate values.
- Risk & Compliance Management:
- Identify and manage risks related to contractual arrangements, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, land use protocols, and RAP commitments.
- Monitor the performance of contractors and partners to ensure compliance with contractual terms and environmental goals.
- Advise internal stakeholders on risk mitigation strategies and resolve any disputes or issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and organised records of all contracts, amendments, and communications.
- Prepare regular reports on contract performance, financial implications, and project progress for internal and external stakeholders, including First Nations leadership and government bodies.
- Program Support & Coordination:
- Work closely with project managers and other team members to ensure that contracts support the successful execution of tree planting and honeycomb production initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support in securing land access, funding, and resources necessary for program implementation.
Key Requirements:
- Qualifications:
- A degree in Law, Business Administration, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Relevant legal or contract management certification (e.g., CIPS, CAMS) preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of five years experience in contract management, ideally within the context of environmental, agricultural, or Indigenous-related projects.
- Strong understanding of First Nations issues, including land rights, cultural protocols, and community engagement.
- Experience working in partnership with First Nations communities or Indigenous organisations is highly desirable.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, land use agreements, and sustainability practices.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- A high level of integrity, cultural sensitivity, and respect for First Nations traditions and governance.
- Desirable:
- Experience in the renewable energy, agriculture, or sustainability sectors.
- Knowledge of Australian Indigenous history, law, and governance structures.
