Health and Safety Advisor who will play a vital role in fostering a safe, compliant and proactive workplace culture that protects GAWB's people, assets and the environment
Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority constituted under the Water Act 2000 whose purpose is to supply bulk water to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants. It takes measures to protect the quantity and quality of present and future water supplies and provides, operates and maintains recreational facilities and fish fingerling production facilities and stocking programs. The organisation is committed to the local and hands-on relationships with their customers and community to drive continued innovation. About the role:Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will play a key role in implementing GAWB’s Health and Safety Strategy and driving initiatives within the Safety Action Plan. You will provide specialist advice, support the development and maintenance of the WHS Management System, and actively contribute to a culture of safety excellence throughout the organisation.
- Provide specialist advice and assistance in developing health and safety policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Conduct site visits, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure safe systems of work
- Lead and support investigations, reporting, and corrective action management of health and safety incidents
- Facilitate engagement with operational teams to embed proactive safety practices and initiatives
- Maintain and analyse safety performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
- Contribute to safety communications, campaigns, and training initiatives including Toolbox Talks and VOC programs
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance across projects, assets, and operational activities
About You: - Certificate IV or higher qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable, not essential)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar WHS advisory or business partner role
- Strong understanding of AS45001, WHS legislation, and best practice safety management systems
- Proven experience conducting investigations, audits, and developing WHS procedures
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Construction White Card and a current C Class Driver’s Licence
